Dr. Furukawa received his medical degree in 1970 from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in New York. He then moved to Seattle to pursue his internship and residency in Pediatrics at the University of Washington and Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.
After two years service in the Air Force, he did his fellowship in Allergy and Immunology. He received his board certification in Allergy and Immunology and joined Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center in 1977.
At the University of Washington, he is Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and is past Clinical Head of the Division of Allergy at Seattle Children’s. He also is past Associate Director of the University of Washington Allergy-Immunology Fellowship Training Program. He served as medical advisor to the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network and continues as a Director of ASTHMA, Inc.
Dr. Furukawa has no plans for retirement, as he loves to care for his patients. After 30 years of service to innumerable organizations as President or Chairperson, he now focuses his chair as a platform for his grandchildren. Personal enjoyments include steelhead fishing, cooking, organic gardening and racquetball.
Dr. Furukawa sees patients at the Seattle and Renton offices.
