David R. Naimi, DO
Dr. Naimi is a Board Certified Allergist who enjoys practicing here in his hometown of Seattle. He grew up in Mukilteo and attended Mariner High School in Everett. After receiving his osteopathic medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA, he did his pediatric residency at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital (Case Western Reserve University) in Cleveland. He then completed his fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and The University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Naimi has been with Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center since 2008. As an undergraduate at the University of Washington, he had debated whether to pursue teaching or medicine. He spent three months teaching in a remote village of Indangalasia, Kenya before officially deciding to pursue medicine. He feels that teaching is an integral part of medicine. He enjoys overseeing medical residents and fellows in training while educating patients about their health issues.
He is interested in taking a global approach to medicine. During medical school and residency he rotated in Oaxaca, Mexico and Santander, Spain and also participated in a volunteer medical trip to Honduras. He has a passion for taking a step out of his day-to-day existence to learn about other people and cultures, which provides him with a refreshing perspective.
Dr. Naimi also takes a very personable approach to working with patients. He says, “I believe patients need to be heard. You can learn so much by just listening to what patients are experiencing and putting yourself in their shoes.”
Dr. Naimi is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington and is on staff at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Swedish Hospital in Edmonds. He sits on numerous medical advisory boards and is a frequent speaker at medical conferences nationwide. He currently helps the group with clinical research through Seattle Allergy & Asthma Research Institute (previously ASTHMA Clinical Research Center) and publishes in peer-reviewed journals. He is frequently interviewed by the media about allergy and asthma issues.
In his free time, Dr. Naimi spends time with his family, explores the Pacific Northwest and Lake Washington, treks to lesser traveled countries like Myanmar and Cuba, jogs Greenlake, paints and is a volunteer mentor to a local teen. During sports seasons, you’ll find him cheering on his Huskies, Seahawks, and his struggling Fantasy Football team.
